Australian Mining – New skills alliance tackles labour shortage

AUSMESA, one of the new Jobs and Skills Councils announced by the Australian Government, is addressing severe labor shortages in the mining and resources sector. The mining sector has the highest percentage of vacant positions, and AUSMESA will work with industry and Jobs and Skills Australia to determine job roles, skills needs and training pathways. The Councils will operate as a national network of industry-led organisations to improve system responsiveness and act as a source of intelligence on issues affecting industries. This approach is a fundamental shift in industry engagement in the VET sector to tackle the lack of skilled workers.
