Key project outcomes

On Wednesday 24 June 2026, Skills Ministers endorsed updates to the AUR Automotive Retail, Service and Repair Training Package.

The endorsed changes were published on the National Training Register on Thursday 9 July 2026.

AUR Automotive Retail, Service and Repair Training Package

• 1 unit of competency updated: AURVTN120 superseded by AURVTN220 (equivalent)
• 1 qualification updated: AUR32120 superseded by AUR32126 Certificate III in Automotive Body Repair Technology (equivalent, Release 1)

The revised unit retains the full scope of the original, with clearer, more precise Performance Evidence that supports consistent interpretation across all Registered Training Organisations (RTOs).

What changed and why

AURVTN120 contained Performance Evidence that could be read in 2 different ways, leading to inconsistency in how RTOs trained and assessed this unit.

Some providers required learners to complete 9 panel replacements across 3 vehicles; others required only 3. Neither interpretation was clearly intended.

Following national consultation, the Performance Evidence has been rewritten to make the required standard clear, measurable and consistent with current industry practice. 

Stakeholder engagement

The review was informed by national consultation across the automotive sector, including:

• employers and industry representatives
• RTOs
• industry peak bodies and unions
• regulators and licensing bodies
• Commonwealth, state and territory government stakeholders.

All feedback was recorded in a Consultation Log, which documents stakeholder comments, key themes, and how each issue was addressed.

Transition arrangements

When a training product is superseded, RTOs must transition from the previous version to the current version within specified timeframes. The allowable transition period depends on the type of training product and the nature of the change.

Companion Volume Implementation Guide

An updated Companion Volume Implementation Guide (CVIG) is available to support RTOs and industry in implementing these changes. It includes:

• guidance on changes to qualifications and units
• information on pathways and prerequisites
• regulatory and licensing considerations
• workplace health and safety context.
