Designing the qualifications of the future
AUSMASA, as the Jobs and Skills Council for the Mining and Automotive Industries, is undertaking a program of work to support the Qualification Reform Design Group (QRDG) as outlined in the Design Group March 2024 update. This work will road-test the proposed purpose-led qualification model:
Purpose 1 – qualifications leading to a specific occupation (for example, a licensed trade)
Purpose 2 – qualifications to prepare learners for multiple occupations within an industry
Purpose 3 – qualifications that develop cross-sectoral or foundation skills and knowledge that may be applied across industries or lead to tertiary education and training pathways.
AUSMASA is currently undertaking the following work to test the proposed reforms to qualification design:
- Automotive Demonstration Project to trial and refine the proposed purpose-led model, with a focus on Purpose 2.
- Automotive Purpose Categorisation Activity.
More information about Qualification Reform and advice given to Skills Ministers by the Design Group can be found on the Department of Employment and Workplace Relations (DEWR) website.
Project timeline
Start date: June 2024
Expected completion date: September 2024
Scope
This activity will test the application of the proposed purpose-led qualification model by categorising existing qualifications in the two automotive training packages listed below against the three proposed purposes and quality principles. The categorisation activity will also provide feedback about how the proposed model could improve the structure of qualifications.
