Development of new training products for Advanced Driver Assistance Systems calibration

On Wednesday 24 June 2026, Skills Ministers endorsed updates to the AUR Automotive Retail, Service and Repair Training Package.

The endorsed changes were published on the National Training Register on Thursday 9 July 2026.

About this project

AUSMASA developed new training products to address Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), a gap that had not previously been covered in the AUR Automotive Retail, Service and Repair Training Package.

ADAS technologies use cameras, radar, LiDAR, ultrasonic sensors and GPS to detect hazards and assist drivers, and are designed to prevent collisions and accidents. As the automotive industry has evolved, the need for technicians with specialised skills in ADAS identification, repair and calibration has grown significantly. Despite this, no nationally recognised units of competency existed on the National Training Register to address ADAS calibration or repair. Non-accredited training offered by original equipment manufacturers had been filling this gap.

The project also took into account the Australian Design Rules (ADRs), which set national vehicle standards for safety, anti-theft and emissions, with a range of ADRs directly relating to ADAS including advanced emergency braking, reversing technologies and blind spot information systems.

Three new units of competency were developed, one existing unit was substantially updated, and a new ADAS Skill Set was created to support targeted upskilling of the existing workforce. Sixteen qualifications across the AUR Training Package were updated to include the new units where relevant to the occupation.

An updated Companion Volume Implementation Guide (CVIG) is available to support RTOs and industry in implementing these changes. It includes:

• guidance on changes to qualifications and units
• information on pathways and prerequisites
• regulatory and licensing considerations
• workplace health and safety context.
