Project status
Phase 1 is now complete. Phase 2 is underway.
Running from August to December 2025, the project will be guided by a broad stakeholder steering committee and supported by a panel of discipline specialists. The project will use a co-design approach, combining structured consultation, occupational analysis, and feasibility testing with employers, unions, RTOs, and regulators.
The scope of Phase 2 will address topics including the qualification structure and graduate outcomes, alignment with current and emerging job roles, industrial relations and workforce development considerations, and the delivery feasibility within the VET system.

The phase 1 report has been submitted and approved by The Department of Employment and Workplace Relations.

Phase 2 includes:
This phase will focus on the roles of reliability engineers and testing engineers, which have been identified as critical to the mining sector and are increasingly important across many aligned industries.
These roles are central to the industry of the future, ensuring safety, efficiency, and performance as operations become more automated, data-driven, and technologically integrated and advanced.
