Bridging the Gap with an AQF level 7 Vocational Degree
AUSMASA has embarked on an initiative to investigate, design, and pilot a higher-level vocational pathway at AQF Level 7. This new qualification aims to bridge the gap we call the “missing middle”—the space between traditional trades qualifications and university degrees.
What is a Vocational Degree?
A technical qualification that provides learners with access to work-based learning opportunities at AQF level 7, including learning that may be linked with a contract of training where the work-based learning component aligns with applicable standards for the associated industry
The project is structured across three key phases, each focused on addressing persistent workforce challenges in the mining and automotive sectors:
Phase 1 – Feasibility study is now complete and incorporated the following:
- Literature review
- Industry consultation
- Environmental scan
- Opportunity analysis
- Feasibility Analysis
Phase 2 – Targeted co-design, validation and engagement with partners. This phase is now complete.
- Outcomes from Phase 2 will provide a detailed, evidence-based framework to progress the development of the vocational degree in Phase 3.
Phase 3 – Development, piloting and broader implementation
