Development of contextualised training resources for the mining industry to promote safe and respectful workplaces
This project is a collaboration between AUSMASA and Future Skills Organisation (FSO) to develop and contextualise nationally accredited training materials that promote safe and respectful workplaces, with a focus on the mining sector. It responds to findings from Western Australia’s inquiry into Sexual Harassment in the Mining Industry and amendments to the Fair Work Act 2009, there is a demonstrated need for national training to address workplace behaviours and promote safe, respectful, and inclusive environments.
We will collaborate with FSO to provide input into proposed development of a new unit of competency.
The FSO project will update the BSB30719 Certificate III in Work Health and Safety to include a new elective Unit of Competency (UoC), embedding safe and respectful workplace skills in a nationally recognised qualification, and a new qualification template for the BSB30719 Certificate III in Work Health and Safety.
Cross-sector learning and assessment resources will also be developed to support quick and effective adoption of the Unit of Competency into learning programs. FSO, supported by other Jobs and Skills Councils (JSCs), including us, will design the UoC for contextualisation across sectors to reduce duplication and drive consistent training outcomes.
FSO-led output includes:
- A new elective Unit of Competency developed for Safe and Respectful Workplaces
- Updated BSB30719 Certificate III in Work Health and Safety to include the new elective Unit of Competency and a new Qualification template
- Cross-sector learning and assessment resources to support rapid take-up of the new Unit of Competency.
AUSMASA will:
- Promote consultation opportunities from FSO for mining stakeholders to engage with the training product development.
- Participate in the FSO Technical Committee.
- Engage with mining stakeholder to inform the contextualisation of learning and assessment resources for the mining industry.
- Contextualise the learning and assessment resources for the mining industry.
This project commenced in September 2025 and is due for completion in December 2026.
