Non-Accredited Training in the Mining Industry

Identifying barriers to accredited training and the factors driving unaccredited learning

The Non-Accredited Training in the Mining Industry Project examines the mining industry's declining reliance on accredited training under the RII training package, which coincides with the growing preference for unaccredited or 'in-house' training models.

This project identifies the barriers to the uptake of accredited training and the factors driving the shift towards unaccredited learning, including compliance requirements, industry demand, and the flexibility to meet specific operational needs.

Drawing on VET and employment data, stakeholder interviews, and mine training site visits, this research will provide a comprehensive, evidence-based report on current training practices in the industry and opportunities for RII qualification reform. These insights will inform industry and provide evidence-based conclusions for training design and delivery, ensuring that training pathways remain relevant and responsive.
