Develop Hydrogen Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle Training Products for the AUR Training Package 

On Tuesday 3 March 2026, Skills Ministers endorsed updates to the AUR Automotive Retail, Service and Repair Training Package 

The endorsed changes have been published on the National Training Register. 

Project overview 

This project developed new training products to address emerging hydrogen fuel cell technologies in the automotive industry.   

The update includes two new units of competency, a new skill set, and minor updates to a selection of qualifications to incorporate the new units into their elective banks.  

Quality assurance and governance 

Prior to endorsement, all updated training products undertook a quality assurance check, including: 

• An anti-discrimination assessment to ensure that consultation processes were inclusive and that revised training products do not unintentionally disadvantage any learner group
• Consideration and support for implementation provided by Senior Responsible Officers (SROs)
• Reviewed by the Training Package Assurance Body.  

Consultation 

Extensive public and government consultation informed the review process. Feedback was sought from major stakeholders, including employers, Registered Training Organisations (RTOs), peak industry bodies, regulators, and government stakeholders.  

All feedback was recorded in a detailed Consultation Log, including stakeholder comments, key themes, and how issues were addressed. The consultation log has been made available for download.

Companion Volume Implementation Guides (CVIGs) 

Updated CVIGs are available to assist RTOs and industry with implementation. These guides provide: 

• information on changes to qualifications and units 
• pathways and prerequisite requirements 
• regulatory and licensing considerations 
• workplace health and safety implications.
