Automotive Tyre Servicing Technology

AUSMASA reviewed and updated training products for the Certificate II in Automotive Tyre Servicing Technology (AUR21920) to reflect current industry practices and safety standards for the handling and maintenance of wheels, tyres and rims.

The project identified 2 key gaps. The first gap identified that hazards and risks specific to tyre, wheel and rim handling were not adequately covered across the units required to obtain the qualification.

This is a significant concern given the safety-critical nature of this work and the range of vehicle types and environments in scope. Second, the specialisation completed within the qualification was not clearly described on certificates or statements of attainment, which created a risk that graduates could be placed in high-risk applications without the specific skills required for that context.

The review updated units across multiple vehicle and equipment types – light vehicle, heavy vehicle, motorcycle, earthmoving and agricultural – to embed current safety requirements and remove outdated practices. Two new units were also developed to address agricultural equipment applications not previously covered. The qualification was updated to ensure specialisation is clearly identified in credentials.
