AUSMASA Sundowner: Progress in Partnership

On Tuesday 21 April, AUSMASA welcomed members and stakeholders to its Sundowner: Progress in Partnership at Elizabeth Quay, Perth. Bringing together industry, training, unions, education and government representatives from across Western Australia and interstate, the evening provided a valuable opportunity to connect, share insights and strengthen relationships across the mining and automotive sectors.

Dr Imogen Garcia Reid, AUSMASA Executive Director, Industry, Partnerships and Stewardship, opened the event with a warm welcome, emphasising the importance of strong engagement from Western Australia within AUSMASA's national network. Chief Executive Officer Dr Gavin Lind then provided an update on AUSMASA's ongoing work, highlighting the organisation’s role in representing member interests and fostering meaningful partnerships across industry and the training system.

A highlight of the evening was a fireside chat facilitated by Dr Garcia Reid, featuring Renu Kannu (CORE Innovation Hub) and Neil Le Febvre (MTAWA). The discussion provided practical, grounded insights into the value of AUSMASA membership from both training and industry perspectives. Through candid examples, both speakers emphasised the impact of collaboration, active participation, and a shared commitment to addressing skills and workforce challenges. Their reflections reinforced the tangible benefits of engagement and the strength of sector-wide partnerships.

Formalities concluded with an invitation to continue the conversation, and the final hour provided guests with the opportunity to connect with industry peers and further strengthen relationships across the mining and automotive industries.

The sundowner created a valuable space for members and stakeholders to exchange ideas, build connections and reflect on the role of partnership in shaping a skilled, future-ready workforce.

Being part of AUSMASA provides opportunities to connect with peers, contribute to national workforce initiatives, and participate in events like this.
