Advanced vehicle technologies and stakeholder feedback drive training updates

New Australian training products have been developed for people working with Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) components in vehicles, to address rapidly evolving technologies not covered in existing training products.

The Mining and Automotive Skills Alliance (AUSMASA) has developed new training products addressing ADAS, identification, repair and calibration, filling a gap that has existed as the technology rapidly evolved. The endorsed products are now available on the as part of the AUR – Automotive Retail, Service and Repair Training Package. National Training Register.

“Working with vehicle Advanced Driver Assistance Systems takes specialist skills and knowledge,” said AUSMASA CEO, Dr Gavin Lind.

“Developing these training products addresses specialist knowledge requirements and ensures training competency standards reflect the real skills and knowledge that modern workplaces need.”

Built for a rapidly evolving technology

ADAS technologies are now standard across a growing range of vehicles, and technicians need the skills to work with them safely and correctly after servicing, replacement or repair work.

The new training products reflect this reality. Three new units of competency have been developed, one existing unit has been substantially updated, and a new ADAS Skill Set provides a pathway for experienced technicians to upskill without completing a full qualification. 16 AUR qualifications have also been updated to include relevant ADAS units.

Developed with industry, for industry

The training products were developed through extensive national consultation. More than 80 organisations contributed, including employers, regulators, unions, training organisations and technical experts from across the automotive sector. This breadth of input has shaped training products that reflect what workplaces actually need – not just in the workshop, but across the range of automotive occupations that encounter ADAS systems as part of their work.

As vehicle technologies continue to evolve, AUSMASA remains committed to ensuring training keeps pace, and that Australian workers are appropriately skilled and valued.
