About the Mining and Automotive Skills Alliance (AUSMASA)

The Mining and Automotive Skills Alliance (AUSMASA) is one of 10 Jobs and Skills Councils (JSC) funded by the Australian Government Department of Employment and Workplace Relations (DEWR).

Addressing the mining and automotive industries’ skills and workforce challenges.

As the Jobs and Skills Council (JSC) representing Australia's mining and automotive industry, we identify the current and future skills and labour needs.

We act as a source of intelligence on workforce issues affecting the mining and automotive industry.

We map and promote study pathways, develop industry-relevant training products and resources and provide advice on national training system policies.

Driving workforce capability for the mining and automotive industries.

The Mining and Automotive Skills Alliance (AUSMASA) is one of 10 industry-owned, industry-led Jobs and Skills Councils (JSC) funded by the Australian Government Department of Employment and Workplace Relations (DEWR).

The strength of tomorrow’s workforce depends on a vocational education and training (VET) system that is responsive to the changing needs of industry and the Australian economy.  That’s where we come in.

Through collaboration, we provide industry with a strong, strategic voice, ensuring Australia’s VET system delivers better outcomes for learners and employers.

We bring together employers, unions and governments in a tripartite arrangement to find solutions to skills and workforce challenges.

Strategic Workforce Advisory Panels (SWAPS)

Our SWAPs serve as a wealth of knowledge. Their insights help us ensure that vocational education and training (VET) programs meet the evolving needs of employers and remain relevant. These individuals also engage and consult with us on workforce matters affecting the mining and automotive industries.

Technical Advisory Groups (TAGS)

Our Technical Advisory Groups (TAGs) help ensure accredited training products meet industry needs. Find out about offering your professional skills and advice on a TAG committee.

TAGs are stood up as training product development projects require a specialist group to inform our projects. Please revisit this page to see new TAG opportunities opening soon.

Our story

Like the industries we represent, we have evolved.

2019 We started as the Mining Skills Organisation Pilot (MSOP), an Australian Government initiative. In collaboration with the Minerals Council of Australia, the MSOP aimed to enhance relationships between the VET sector and the minerals and resources industries, addressing workforce challenges and opportunities.

2021 We became the Australian Minerals and Energy Skills Alliance (AUSMESA). AUSMESA was an independent organisation funded by the Australian Government that focused on enhancing vocational education and training (VET) by engaging with the mining and energy sectors and prioritising learners in the system.

2023 AUSMESA transformed into the Mining and Automotive Skills Alliance (AUSMASA), a Jobs and Skills Council supported by the Australian Government Department of Employment and Workplace Relations. We work with the mining and automotive industries and the education sector to ensure Australia's workforce is competitive, innovative, and adaptable.
