Industry Working Groups

AUSMASA is establishing 2 Industry Working Groups (IWGs) to ensure that training packages and workforce development keep pace with technological change, support the safe implementation of new technologies, and reflect real-world operational requirements. Our IWGs:

  • Electric Vehicles and Alternative Fuels
  • Technological Advancements in Mining

We are seeking 10-15 members for each IWG. Members will attend quarterly virtual meetings and can participate in optional between-meeting discussions or consultations.

Expressions of interest for each IWG are open until Monday 2 March. Submit your EOI below.

Automotive IWG: Electric Vehicles and Alternative Fuels

Rapid advancements in electric vehicles, hydrogen and other alternative fuels are significantly reshaping skills requirements across the automotive, mining and transport sectors. Industry continues to highlight challenges in workforce readiness, safety, training consistency, and the pace at which training products adapt to new technologies. This IWG has been established to help address these challenges from an industry-led perspective.

The IWG will bring together individuals with operational, technical and workforce experience to:

  • Identify current and emerging skills and training challenges
  • Inform the design and improvement of national training products
  • Support future-focused workforce pathways

Mining IWG: Technological Advancements in Mining

The rapid adoption of technologies such as automation, machine guidance, remote operations, digital systems, data analytics and artificial intelligence is transforming mining operations. While these advancements deliver productivity and safety benefits, industry continues to raise challenges around workforce transition, skills shortages and the alignment of training products with operational realities.

This IWG has been established to bring together individuals with operational, technical and workforce expertise to:

  • Identify skills and training challenges linked to emerging mining technologies
  • Understand workforce impacts across operational, maintenance and supervisory roles
  • Inform the development and modernisation of national training products
