Assessing the currency of AUM qualifications against contemporary automotive manufacturing requirements
The project will investigate the factors contributing to declining use of the AUM Training Package and assess the currency of existing qualifications against the skills requirements of contemporary automotive manufacturing, including EV and component manufacturing sectors. Research will be derived from VET and employment data, and stakeholder interviews.
First-hand perspectives and industry input will be provided by, including but not be limited to:
- Employers and training managers within automotive and component manufacturing
- Registered Training Organisations delivering AUM products
- EV manufacturers and repairers
- Battery recycling and repurposing sector representatives
- Government and regulatory agencies
- Peak bodies and industry associations.
Outcomes
- Identifying the perceived limitations of existing AUM qualifications contributing to declining enrolment and employer disengagement
- Assessing skills gaps associated with the EV transition, specifically in EV assembly, drivetrain manufacturing, battery end-of-life management, and repurposing
- Examining Australia's domestic component manufacturing capability and the training required to support its growth relative to import dependency
- Exploring cross-industry applications and skills gaps of AUM-relevant skills in mining electrification, heavy transport, and renewable energy storage
- Identifying what qualifications, skillsets, and units of competencies (if any) are needed to maintain currency of the AUM training package in line with industry needs.
